Two long time clients of WJFA purchased land in Garden City, Port Melbourne and decided to build townhouses adjoining each other.

The initial design featured two three storey contemporary dwellings but was rejected by council because it did not respect the two storey gable style of the adjoining "bank house" dwellings (so called because they were built by State Banks in the 50s and 60s).

WJFA suggested "blowing up" a typical Garden City bank house and set about designing a modern dwelling within the contextual form allowed.

The deconstructed forms reflect an explosion of traditionalism - the roof has been blown off and apart and the windows have been blown apart, extending beyond the perimeter of the building.

A modern, contemporary interior pokes it's head out of the historical forms.  Handmade steel staircases and balustrades constructed by blacksmiths are surrounded by horizontal aluminium framework framing city views.

The stair and screen design have made the houses a standout feature in advertising and TV. They are now known as the 'Stingers' townhouses, featuring heavily in the program as the lead characters (played by Garry Sweet) residence.
